How does it achieve that? 

Well, it has far less wood inside. Only the back has a frame for flexible installation options (the back frame is 42 x 18 mm so you can use almost any kind of screws) and the front and sides of the absorber are softer. It’s basically a massive cushion optimised for absorbing full spectrum music with heavy bass.
